Telling Our Story

Project Overview

I was tasked with rethinking the People section of our site. We were looking for a better way to tell Henderson’s story as we shifted our company to a more sector-based approach as well as highlighting some of our new initiatives as a firm.

The Challenge

Recreate the People section that tells a stronger story of our firm. We wanted to be direct and concise, yet tell a thorough and engaging story. We weren’t looking to start over, rather use what we have and simply tell our story, better.

The Solution

We decided a few things would improve our firm’s visibility and storytelling. First, rename People to Who We Are as this is a common phrase and navigation item used in our industry. Second, rearrange our navigation as we determined the first spot was our most frequently hovered item according to heat maps. Lastly, although the Who We Are page was an overview of our firm, we would also create an About Us page where we could more thoroughly tell our story.

Research & Initial Designs

I began by researching competitors and gaining inspiration from mood boards. I found that our competitors were using the phrase Who We Are as a way to tell their story. I thought it lent itself well and I went from there. Under the Who We Are section, I added an About Us page to more thoroughly tell our story as a firm. I relied on user testing to confirm my initial thoughts.

User Testing

Once I had a Who We Are page and section created, I decided to conduct further user testing with members of the marketing team, a few members of our executive team, and client relationship directors. I walked them through my designs which helped me to ensure the user was kept in mind. After the participants navigated through the leadership page, I simply asked for feedback.

Prototype Development

Once all of the user testing and improvements were made, I started prototyping. I designed and prototyped a new who we are page, about us page, as well as an updated navigation in Adobe XD. I sent this file, with build comments, to our developers so they could build it out, have time for internal testing, and push it to production.

Live Site & Reflection

This project took a few months from start to finish. We wanted to ensure we understood our problem and solution clearly as well as the needs of the firm in telling our story. We built a user friendly, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing section of the website. By rearranging this navigation as well, we found we made the right decision as these new pages were receiving lots of traffic and engagement.
